The Importance of Sun

Did you know that sunlight is a nutrient? We're constantly reminded of the need to protect ourselves from the sun, but at least 20 mins a day (without sunglasses and sunscreen) can help elevate your mood, increase your energy and improve your sleep. Ever notice how during a beach vacation, you often have deep, restful sleep every night? Of course some of this may be due to getting away, relaxing a bit etc., but I'm willing to bet the daily exposure to more sunlight than usual is a strong factor. Sunlight exposure is known to help regulate your circadian rhythm, and it also helps your body produce serotonin which your body then breaks down into melatonin which helps you fall and stay asleep.

Of course, as with most good things, too much can be detrimental. So if you are going to have prolonged sun exposure, protect yourself with sunscreen. We've switched all our sunscreens to physical versions rather than chemical. Physical sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide whereas the chemical sunscreens have active ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxinate which appear to be endocrine disrupters in a number of studies.

So...get off the Uber and walk...eat your lunch outside...take a mid afternoon break in the sun. You'll feel the difference I promise!
